Description of the tasks undertaken: 

The overall objective of this study was to propose Strategies to Enhance Royalty Collection from MSSMs. The following specific but interrelated research objectives supported the study: To profile and assess the capacity of MSSMs in Tanzania from the perspective of ability to pay royalties to the Government

To assess the extent to which the current mining laws, regulations and policies in Tanzania facilitate/constrain royalty collection from MSSMs;To assess the existing Government monitoring and enforcement mechanisms for the mining sector for their efficacy in facilitating royalty collection from the MSSMs;To analyse the relationship between level of MSSMs activities and outputs efforts and amount of royalty collection

To review for lessons practices in royalty collection from MSSMs in developing countries with progressive mining sectors; To develop workable strategies for enhancing royalty collection from MSSMs

Services rendered: Review of documents, physical observation of mines, interview conducted to stakeholders and data analysis and report writing.
